Dr. Tim's Hudson, New York Recommendations
Overall Impression
I enjoyed my quick trip (2-night trip) to Hudson! I enjoyed a lot of what the town has to offer and recommend it! The food scene skews more American and farm-to-table vibes. It’s a low lift when traveling from NYC and is a pleasant weekend getaway. You can likely get through most of the town after only staying 1 night, but if you want to try more restaurants and go at a more leisurely pace, it’s a good option to stay 2 nights. There are nearby hikes that I hear are fun to do, but I wasn’t able to due to some mobility issues from some of the people I traveled with.
Travel To Hudson (From NYC)
Amtrak is easy and takes about 2.5 hours from Penn Station. A car would likely be more ideal so you could travel to neighboring towns or some activities that are farther out. Example: Art Omi (outdoor art center that looks awesome). However, I didn’t want to go through the hassle of renting a car.
Food
Kitty’s restaurant + cafe + market: really good food! Had the chicken meal with sides. The pastries and local foods in the market were great.
Red Dot restaurant — an unexpected find that impressed me. Liked their food and has a great outdoor garden.
Lobster Rolls & Oysters - by Oyster Party. This is located in an outdoor lot by Backbar (a restaurant that has Asian-inspired food that I didn’t try due to poor reviews online). The oysters and lobster roll were really good though! Also a great outdoor area with lots of tables and music.
Olde Hudson Market Cafe – has a more typical cafe inside, but also has a market with fresh produce and cheeses. Great area to sit down if you need a quick snack and rest indoors (it’s near the outdoor Oyster Party).
Via Cassia - Italian food. Very good food! Nice ambiance to go with the food as well. The host and hostess were very friendly and welcoming (they would joke with us during our meal!).
Le Perche - pastry/food. Disappointed with this one - saw a lot of TikTok folks go there. Food was mediocre, pastries were on the burnt side, and hostesses were rude. Our waitress was nice though. Their outdoor area was also nice and good for taking pictures
Feast & floret lunch - couldn’t get a reservation, and looks really great from the outside! I would’ve gone if I could.
Breadfolks - bread is apparently good there, didn’t try
Will & Sons — most on social media talk about this one. Farm to table and seems to be the most sought-after place but didn’t try it personally. It’s also a hotel that people stay at.
The Maker - very aesthetic and fun environment. Didn’t try personally, but seems like a place to get a cocktail.
Nine Cakes – dessert place. I’m not much of a cake/cupcake person, but this place was fantastic. Since I was with a group of people, we were able to try several things, and enjoyed all of it. They were also very pleasant and kind, and even gave us some free goodies to go (since we came in at closing time)!
Coffee
Wylde - coffee (larger area with seating, great vibe)
Hudson Roastery - coffee - great pastries, had a line of people, seems locals really like it there
Supernatural Coffee - had some fun coffee drinks. Liked it overall
Activities
Antique warehouse - large and a go-to for anyone passing through Hudson. It’s right behind the Amtrak station too!
Hudson farmers market 9 am Saturday
Warren Street shopping area, walk down the whole street. Many amazing shops!
Can do Candle making at poured candle bar - didn’t get to personally, but looked fun
Hudson riverfront park
Hudson Athens lighthouse - can book a tour
Secret Garden - purchase a plant or simply do a walk-through
